Camp Explore is back—and this year, it’s better than ever.
Camp Explore has been one of TFS’s most beloved programs because it offers something truly powerful: the chance for kids to unplug, connect with nature, build friendships, and grow in confidence. Time outdoors, new experiences, and supportive group environments don’t just make great memories—they help children develop resilience, independence, and a strong sense of belonging that lasts long after summer ends.
In 2026, we’re building on that impact with a few thoughtful changes designed to strengthen the program, expand opportunities, and ensure access for the kids who need it most.
We’re excited to partner with Sierra Nevada Journeys for our first two sessions of Camp Explore! Located in Portola, CA (just 1 hour 15 minutes from Incline Village), this beautiful outdoor campus offers a classic camp experience that includes:
What makes this partnership especially meaningful is the shared focus on social-emotional learning—helping campers strengthen teamwork, communication, and self-confidence in a fun, supportive environment.

This year’s Camp Layout
As part of our Camp Explore program, we’re offering a variety of outdoor experiences throughout the summer. Please review the following details to see what type of camping your child will experience:
Session 1: June 29 through July 3 & Session 2 – July 6 through July 10
Session 3: July 13 through July 17 & Session 4 – July 20 through July 24
Session 5: July 27 – July 31:
Each week is thoughtfully designed to meet campers where they are—whether it’s their first overnight experience or a more advanced outdoor adventure.
One of the biggest changes this year is the introduction of a sliding scale program fee.
In the past, Camp Explore was offered at no cost to all families. While this allowed us to serve many children, we found that it also limited our ability to prioritize access for youth who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp.
Our goal is to remove the barriers that can keep youth from enjoying outdoor recreation and education programs, whether those barriers are financial, cultural, language related, connected to homelife or identity, tied to mental health, or anything else. We want every young person to feel welcome, represented, and able to enjoy the incredible and beautiful outdoors.
This new approach allows us to stay true to our mission:
Our goal is simple:
Make camp accessible, sustainable, and fair so that every child who can benefit has the opportunity to attend.
