TFS Family Advocate

FLSA Status: Part-time, hourly (20-24 hours per week)

SUMMARY:
The position of a TFS Family Advocate is a multi-faceted, challenging, and rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated individual seeking an opportunity to provide support, resources and referrals for FRC families and individuals. This role supports and empowers families by providing guidance, resources, emotional support and advocacy to improve family well-being and navigate social service, educational, and legal systems. Our ideal candidate is passionate about helping families, has excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and possesses a thorough understanding of community resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to identify family needs and develop individualized support plans.
- Monitor and document family progress, preparing reports for social services and grantors.
- Provide emotional support, guidance and referrals as needed to families dealing with trauma, conflict, or other challenges.
- Act as a liaison between families and social services, schools, healthcare providers, and legal systems.
- Assist in the facilitation of parenting education, workshops, and group sessions as topics are determined.
- Advocate for families’ rights and needs within social services or legal frameworks. Equip families with the skills and support to self-advocate.
- Maintain knowledge of community resources and programs (including internal TFS services), providing accurate referrals and identifying and sharing service gaps.
- Deliver culturally relevant and competent information and services to clients and their families.
- Provide families with information on parenting, child development, and family relationships
- Support families during crisis situations and refer them to relevant crisis intervention services, including law enforcement and court dates.
- Make recommendations to the Executive Director about families who may require emergency financial assistance.
- Assist in monthly grant reporting.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in social work, counseling, advocacy, or non-profit management preferred.
- 1+ years of advocacy experience in a recognized 501(c)(3) organization preferred
- Supportive of a culturally diverse environment and staff, and 1+ years of experience working with children, youth, and families in crisis.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed service delivery methods. (training will be provided)
- Complete training with the Victim Assistance Academy of Nevada to increase knowledge and skills to better serve victims of crimes.
- Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate program delivery
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is strongly preferred
- Ability and willingness to take initiative, responsibility and work independently to accomplish goals and objectives as set forth by the FRC Program Manager or Executive Director
- Excellent organizational, oral and written skills
- Computer literacy including the full MSFT suite
- Successful completion of State of Nevada and FBI background checks
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Participate with the FRC Manager in preparing and completing the annual organization dashboard
- Maintain TFS policies and procedures within the employee handbook and recommend updates as needed.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and 1 to 1 meetings with the Executive Director to streamline and provide clear communications.
- Implement effective evaluation tools to help inform programming and community needs.
- Provide logistics support and assistance to TFS Fundraising and special events
Community Relations
- Maintain and forge new strategic community partnerships with local businesses and non-profit organizations to promote TFS programs and better support families.
- Attend appropriate community meetings and special events as requested.
